Big Boy Room!

Deegan's room is almost done. Just a few finishing touches left. He was SO excited about his big boy room. I was excited too. Until I read him books and tucked him into his big boy bed. Then I walked into the living room, sat on the couch, and held back tears. I was focused so much on the project of his room that I didn't realize what it meant... our little boy is growing up. And worse... I won't be rocking him in the rocker at night as his little head wobbles back and forth and he drifts off to sleep in my arms. Sigh.
The bed we got for Deegan has storage underneath. Storage is a good thing, but it makes the bed very high! We were sure to get some rails to keep our little peanut from falling out...although he already did. Just once. On his head. He didn't cry, but I heard a loud thump in the night and turned on the monitor just in time to see him climbing his steps and settling back into bed.... so I didn't go in and let him be independent. The next morning I asked why his blankie and teddy were on the floor. His response "Me fall down go boom last night." Poor little guy.
The steps are custom made by daddy-o. Deegan loves them. They are like a new toy. He goes up and down them several times a day.
We painted stripes using Frog tape and we were thrilled with the results. Clean lines that required very little touch up. The stripes add color and fun, but they aren't too "childish" and Deegan can grow and enjoy the stripes for years. The baseball lamp is fun too. Since this photo we have changed the knobs on the dresser to little baseball knobs- one of my favorite details of the room. One of the last things to add to the room is a black and white photograph of Ty Cobb over the dresser. Should be a nice touch.
G and Nani got Deegan this shelf. It is a fun addition to the room and a great place to put things we don't want Deegan playing with.
Our little guy loves his bed. The baseball theme was a good choice for us- it will last for many years and doesn't feel too "toddler-ish". The bedding is from Pottery Barn Teen in case you wondered.

Looking into Deegan's old room (what we call the nursery) and seeing an empty bed each night is a strange thing. Hard to believe that the baby/crib phase of Deegan's life has passed and we'll soon be doing it all over again in May with our next little bundle!
